Spiritual High Lands
There are different routes: Mount Kailash via the Kyirong border is one good option for you! Kyirong is the border between Nepal and China. Kyirong is just 175 km from Kathmandu. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva spent most of his time on the top of the holy Mount Kailash, practicing Yogic austerities, joy, and love with his divine consort Parbati (Mother of Mythology). Lake Mansarovar and the holy Mount Kailash are the souls of all AUM followers the world over.
As per Buddhist texts, Mount Kailash (Kailasa) is known as the mythological Mount Meru. For some Buddhist traditions, Kailash is a major site of pilgrimage and is central to their cosmology. Numerous sites in the region are associated with Padmasambhava, whose tantric practices are found in holy sites around Tibet and are credited with establishing Buddhism as the main religion of the country in the 7th–8th century.
“Conventional wisdom says a single circuit of Mt. Kailash wipes out the sins of a lifetime; 108 Parikramas guarantee enlightenment. A ritual bath in the sacred Mansarovar Lake delivers pilgrims to Brahma’s paradise, and a drop of its water relinquishes the sins of hundreds of lifetimes.”
